What to Look For When Choosing a Bed

19 Jul

Finding the right bed is a big decision because your sleep is very important to your overall health and well being. A bed is used for many years usually so it is also a bit of a long term investment. Here are some things to look for when looking for your perfect bed.

Support

A good bed provides the right support. This is very important and when ignored can lead to soreness and other back conditions. Finding what the right support is for you can take some time. Going to a mattress store and looking and feeling samples can provide one with a better idea.

Springs Have Become Outdated

While good spring mattresses do exist, there are many that are not so great. Spring mattresses are also much heavier than a comparable memory foam mattress. They are bulky and can be difficult to move and store. Many modern mattresses are made of high grade memory foam. While some might be concerned that a foam product cannot provide proper support, let it be said that foam has come a long way. Usually these mattresses have a firm foam foundation with 2-4 inches of the more pliable memory foam on top. They are easy to store because they are more flexible than standard spring mattresses. The added bonus is that memory foam beds are not as likely to make noise when you roll over in the bed.

Appearance

A bed is a pretty big piece of furniture. If you choose to have a headboard and foot board, make sure that it is something that you will still find attractive over the coming years. Matching a bed to existing décor is easy.

Durability

Purchase a good mattress and bed frame that have a long warranty. Better mattresses will come with at least a 20 year warranty. Purchase a very good mattress cover that repels spills of any kind. This will protect it and your new mattress will stay looking new a lot longer.
